This, my third post in the Travel Fashion series, is in keeping with my other posts on fashion timeliness, as it comes in the midst of Paris Fashion Week. In honor of the fashion-forward Parisians, I want to highlight a trend that’s taken the fashion world by absolute storm. Leather. No seriously, it’s absolutely raining leather (and leather-look). And not just any leather…90’s leather.
So I threw on a recent acquirement for a friend’s birthday dinner (excellent time at Chino Latino, read all about it!) that perfectly captures a sassy-yet-classy 90’s look. I got the dress from River Island, which is hardcore embracing the leather and leather-look style in its current range. With a high neck, strappy straps, half leather-look, half form-fitting black and midi-length, the dress is a strong statement. Because of this, I kept accessories understated. In retrospect, I should have donned more drama on the face (with liquid black eyeliner and red lipstick to update the look), but at the time I didn’t want to overdo it.
The shoes are simple black pumps but fantastically comfortable and a great height (no platform, high enough to be sexy but not high enough to be uncomfortable). The brand is Rockport, with adiPRENE soles made by Adidas. You might be thinking “Okay so…heels that feel like running shoes.” And I’m saying yes. Yes, that’s exactly what they feel like. Definitely a good investment, if you’re into using that word to rationalize and justify fashion buys.
The look is definitely perfect for a Night in the City, whether for dinner, drinks, late-hours or a combination of such activities. It’s attention grabbing and emboldening, flattering to the feminine figure while maintaining class, and on top of all this – very light and easy to pack! I’ll definitely be taking this number on an upcoming trip to Paris…
I went for a splash of white with my boutique Mystique bag and a simple round stone necklace. And of course my round stone smoky quartz ring, which I wear all the time.
In case you’re as enamoured with my lovely friend Gaby’s outfit as I am, I’ll give you her specs as well: Topshop top, Ted Baker trousers, Zara heels, Armani watch, Pearl White necklace and M&S clutch. Oh, and of course a Birthday Girl pin.
Let me know what you think of the look in the comments below! I’d love to hear your opinion of all the leather forcing its way back into fashion. Are you leathering the storm, or waiting it out? It’s certainly bold, but I’m a fan – you’ll likely be seeing more on me in the coming weeks.
