Luxury Villas in the South of France

The Cote d’Azur is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet, it’s also incredibly popular amongst the extremely affluent class. When touching down in Nice airport if you’re not flying private then you will filled with envy as you witness the seemingly countless Gulfstreams and Learjets parked at the side of the runway. Casting your eye on the horizon will reveal a huge number of super yachts sailing between Monaco, Cannes, Nice and Antibes. It’s truly the only place to be in the summer.

The Luxe Travel’s editorial team recently went out to inspect the area and stayed in both hotels and villas. The conclusion was made that the only way to sample the delicacies of the South of France was to rent a luxury villa.

You only get to appreciate how popular the South of France is when you try and find a spot on any beach in Provence. The chances of finding a piece of sand merely 3 inches away from a neighbour are impossible. If you’re after a luxury relaxing retreat you need to have your own private pool, away from all the crowds. In Nice many of the hotels do have their own private beaches for their guests or paying customers, with the price range around $30 a day it’s rare to get many walk ins. These however pose a different issue, they are formed from very awkward, painfully large pebbles. It could be dubbed a spa treatment but the exfoliation from the rocks is far too painful to get any sense of fulfilment.

Instead of staying in the crowded areas you’ve got to head up into the rural villages a mere 15-20 minutes from Nice airport. Here you will find a plethora of luxury villas to suit all needs. Almost all are set into a hillside making them south facing so that they enjoy the sun all day long. Distant sea views are commonplace with some even enjoying an infinity pool. This combination produces magical mornings and evenings with the sun sweeping from one side of the Provence bay to the other. No better time to enjoy some locally made croissants, laden with rich butter with some fresh Jams made in from fruits of the hills in Gourdon.

Having a luxury villa will give you far more freedom than staying at a hotel, where you are at the mercy of traffic, set dining arrangements and subject to other guests. You don’t need to have a super yacht to get away from the crowds.

The South of France caters, oozes and smells luxury. To accompany your villa in the hills you’ve got to have breath-taking car. The mountain road’s views and the perfectly formed tarmac leave yourself with no other option than to get a soft-top. The number of super car rentals is pretty impressive and you can rent a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560 for around $1800 a day. Alternatively you can get Porsche Boxter’s for around $500-600 per day which still give you quite a thrill and looks amazing tucked into your hillside luxury villa.

villa franeli1

Villa Franeli is a villa situated in a small hillside town 25 minutes from Nice called Le Rouret. Photo’s simply do not do the place justice. When you arrive in the village you will be led to the house and guided past colourful flower bushes that add vibrance to the historical nature of the village. The Villa itself is set over primarily 1 floor with a garage for 3 cars, a bedroom with en-suite and huge balcony being the only rooms upstairs. There is a sweeping wooden spiral staircase that takes you down into the open plan living and dining room area.

You then have the house separated in two one side having the bedrooms and the other side having the living room and kitchen. The Master bedroom has a big open plan dressing room and fabulous en-suite. All the bedrooms are a generous size and there are two dining areas, one inside and one outside. In the summer you will not be using the inside one at all, it’s far too pleasant outside to be sitting inside. The Kitchen is very well equipped so you can prepare all your favourite french dishes.

The Luxe Travel did not receive any commission or money off their stay it was a family holiday. The owners are very friendly and this is certainly a villa to check out. For information regarding booking please get in touch.
